Welcome to Mattishall

Mattishall is situated in the very heart of Norfolk, just 11 miles west of Norwich. It is the largest village in Breckland and one of the largest villages in Norfolk.

There are many facilities that serve this thriving and active community.  Among these include: a primary school, doctors’ surgery, several churches, many clubs and societies, sports facilities, a variety of local shops, a café, an enterprise and training centre with gym and restaurant, and a pub.

The Parish Council

The Parish Council is made up of 9 councillors who represent the village on various matters.  We are one of three tiers of local government: the others being Norfolk County Council and Breckland District Council.

We meet at 7 pm usually on the first Monday of the month at the Memorial Hall, South Green, Mattishall but due to the current situation with COVID-19 we are meeting virtually. Please see the agenda for joining details.  The public is very welcome to attend our meetings.

We're responsible for:

  • The upkeep of the Burgh Lane Cemetery, Memorial Garden and All Saints Churchyard

  • All Saints Church clock

  • The children’s play area

  • The allotments

  • The upkeep of the Village Green

  • Bus shelters and seating

  • Litter bins and dog bins

  • Providing general maintenance around the village

  • The Friday night youth club

December 2022

The Review of our Mattishall Neighbourhood Plan is now well underway. An article in the December issue of Miscellanea contains more information on what the current plan does and has achieved, and why it's important that we carry out a review to keep the plan relevant.

This is your opportunity to have your say. Please complete our 3 minute online questionnaire or alternatively fill in the form within the Miscellanea magazine.

If you'd like more information or if you'd like to get involved in the plan making process, please contact the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group at mattishallnp@gmail.com or come along to a future Parish Council meeting

Mattishall Neighbourhood Plan Review

Volunteers - Your chance to get involved and help shape the future of our village.

The Neighbourhood Plan is used by the Parish Council and Breckland Council to guide development in the village particularly when considering planning applications.

Our Neighbourhood Plan is now five years old and needs to be updated.

All Mattishall residents and businesses will be fully consulted as we progress the review, but we now need to establish a Steering Group to manage the process. The Steering Group will be made up of three Parish Councillors and three or four Mattishall residents who could give a few hours of time each week. Particularly we would like a volunteer administrator (a key role), alongside others who could give occasional advice and support.

This is an exciting opportunity to help influence how Mattishall develops in the future. We welcome expressions of interest from anyone who'd like to be involved or to find out more about the Neighbourhood Plan.

Our current Neighbourhood Plan can be seen here:
